Question by pineapplepower: Can someone help me understand these knitting instructions?
The book says Row 1: K4, (P4, K4) twice
So what does that mean? I knit 4 times, then Purl four times, then knit 4 again?
Thanks!

knit 4 st , purl 4, knit 4 , purl 4 knit 4.
When brackets are around the st followed by a number ex: (P4 K4) twice, you repeat the st 2x

Yes, it’s very clear. What is within the brackets gets repeated the nulmber of times indicated. The K4 is done only once, then the brackets are repeated twice. Sometimes asterisks are used *…*, or square brackets [...]. Means the same thing.

K4, THEN p4, k4, p4, k4
when instructions are in (), [], etc., that means you do whatever’s inside those brackets x number of times that the pattern tells you.
