Question by fuffernut: Knitting question – is it possible to lengthen a sweater I’m making?
I’m currently knitting a sweater for a friend, and I think it’s going to be a bit short for him. I haven’t sewn up the sides yet – is it possible for me to take out the ribbing at the bottom, knit some more (it’s a simple stockinette stitch), add ribbing and bind off? Would the stitches I add on look upside down, since the sweater was made bottom-up, but the addition would be top-down? This may not even be possible, just wondering. Thanks!

the burning house – 365grateful 016

this is a project within a project: "The Burning House – If your house was burning, what would you take with you? It’s a conflict between what’s practical, valuable and sentimental. What you would take reflects your interests, background and priorities. Think of it as an interview condensed into one question."

Question by cigarflower: Knitting question: what is the difference between wpi and stitches per inch?
If different, which is more reliable? And how do I convert one method to the other and vice versa?
Best answer:
Answer by DishclothDiaries
WPI (Wraps per inch) measures the thickness of the yarn. Although the WPI will have an effect on your stitches per inch, the two don’t really compare. Each knitter works at a different tension so you will need to always follow the gauge (stitches per inch) as stated in the pattern for the best accuracy.

Proof of Madness

The yarn on that cone is 2/48NM, which makes it cobweb weight. In order to make the shawl in question, I will have to use size 1 (2.25mm or 2.5mm) needles to get gauge. This equates to a *lot* of knitting with really really thin yarn. I might go mad in the process, or it might be alright once I find more agreeable needles.
