I have tried to knit not only poncho but also berets but the dont turn up the way i expected. Maybe because am using the wrong yarn. Any one with a pattern using acrylic

So long as the yarn is the same thickness it shouldn’t matter if it’s wool, acrylic or cotton. Most yarns have the needle size on the label. Check that or your gage (which is included in most patterns) and make sure you’re using the correct needles.
