Elizabeth Zimmerman, of august knitting-how-to memory, wrote that this was the best way to cast-on. Then she wondered, in her essay, why she didn’t use it more exclusively. Habit I believe. Trust me. Learn this, esp. from this clip when she teaches that you don’t have to remove the right-hand needle to continue. Beautiful cast-on results. Not too tight, not too loose. Eliz. Zimm.’s conclusion.

Thank you for such a simple knitted cast on explanation. I have been searching for one that is simple enough to show my nine year old granddaughter who is learning to knit.

Thanks, it took four youtubes to find this one that worked for me. Being left handed makes finding a good guide difficult.

It’s not fancy but it works which is why I made the videos, for my students between classes.
Nice name, my cousin knows the members of Fall Out Boy.

THANK YOU! I’ve been searching videos to relearn how to cast on and some are ridiculous. Saw one where the woman didn’t even start from the beginning the video showed her casting on after about 3 stitches and one was just about playing cat’s cradle instead of making the stitches. Thank you for keeping it simple so that people can understand it.t

This is not the same and they are very different.
June 11th, 2010 at 8:29 pm
Technically yes. What you’re doing will jsut give a subtle change to the way the edge looks. If you like what you’re doing and it doesn’t bother you then don’t worry about it.
June 11th, 2010 at 9:01 pm
is this the same as the long tail cast-on? Cause this is waaaayy easier looking then the long tail. Are they much different?
June 11th, 2010 at 9:50 pm
