i’m just learning to knit and having difficulty reading this pattern…thanks

so… at the beginning of the row you knit the first two stitches. then bring the yarn to the front as if to purl. insert the needle in the second stitch and the first stitch together and knit them as one. then knit the next stitch like normal. then your pattern will probably have you repeat this over and over to the end of the row.

    You’re going to knit the first two stitches like normal, then bring your yarn foward and over the right needle. With the yarn wrapped like that, insert the right needle into the next two stitches at the same time, and knit, then knit the next stitch.

    What you are doing is creating an eyelet, or basic lace. the yarn-over will create a hole and a new stitch on your needle, and when you knit the next two stitches together, you are keeping the same number of stitches on your needle that you started with.
