Question by Life in the slow lane: Senior women: How many of you taught your daughters needle work, crochet, knitting, tatting, sewing?
Do YOU know how to do these things? Are these lost arts that will never return? Your thinking please.

My mom never taught me any of the above. I’m 45. I can’t even sew on a button that doesn’t immediately fall off.

Let’s say a scarf that is 4 feet long. I just took up knitting and I’m wonering how many rows I’ll have to knit.

It will depend on the thickness or gauge of the wool. Find out what kind of wool you want to use, that will also determine the size of your needles.

Question by Nicole B: how do i know how many stitches to cast on when knitting socks with the magic loop method?
I would like to know how to do this by calculating my gauge and measuring my foot rather than using a pre made pattern by somebody.
